Beautiful Data
I have become a bit obsessed with data recently. Numbers on a page don’t mean much to me. I’m very visual which is why I love documentary storytelling so much. But there are people doing things with data that will make your jaw drop. And the storytelling potential of data is something I am currently very interested in.
Hans Rosling gave an incredible talk at TED in 2006 – see the video below.
And now I have discovered Aaron Koblin, an artist and programmer who does really amazing and thought provoking things with data. It’s really worth watching his presentation at CaT where he runs through some of his projects, from Flight Patterns to The Sheep Market to Bicycle Built for Two Thousand. Aaron’s website has links to his work so definitely check it out.
By the way, O’Reilly have just published a book called Beautiful Data which looks really great.
