Shooters Q&A

Films I wish I had made

Festen, Goodfellas, United 93, Unforgiven, Big Night, Groundhog Day, The Sweet Hereafter, Raiders (the first one), Alien (the first one), The Bourne Identity, The Sixth Sense, The Wizard of Oz, Some Like It Hot, Dr Strangelove, Bagdad Cafe, Reservoir Dogs, Sir Henry At Rawlinson End, Funny Games, The Fog Of War, Let The Right One In, The Piano Teacher, Breaking The Waves, Nostferatu (the first one).

I cried watching

My children being born.

I left the cinema during

Showgirls and some diabolical Eastern European film starring Bruno Ganz that was about four hours long. And Inland Empire.

Directors I love

Love's a bit strong: Herzog, Scorsese, Errol Morris, Spielberg and many others whose names escape me. And some when they're on form but not when they're not. I'm fickle like that.

Actors I admire

Hopkins, Guinness, Stanley Tucci, Robert Duvall, Michael Sheen, Billy Bob Thornton, Paddy Cosidine, Maxine Peake, Samantha Morton, Jack Lemmon, Crowe (but I wish he'd get out of his rut). Plus lots of lesser character actors who remain anonymous but prop the rest of them up.

Writers I respect

Difficult to answer. Screenwriters? Authors? I like Ian McEwan, Sadie Jones who recently wrote "The Outcast" (utterly brilliant), I thought Reservoir Dogs was a brilliant screenplay, William Goldman (Princess Bride, Butch and Sundance), John Irving, Cormac McCarthay.

My desert island discs

The collected works of Goldfrapp, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode and Arvo Part. I realise the second to last dates me pretty accurately. God bless Basildon!

Books I have given my friends

Herzog on Herzog, The Road, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

My death row meal

A vast curry.

The best thing I own

My mac & my bike.
