Shooters Q&A

Films I wish I had made

I wish i was both Quay Brothers! Also Europa and Songs from the second floor by Roy Andersson, Daisies by Vera Chitilova and The Cremator.

I cried watching

Institute Benjamenta, the sad, dark and cruel tale of a school for servants and its fall. From Robert Walser's novel. Masterpiece and damn emotional. I also wish i had done it. The Hungarian Love of Karoly Mekk. The striking Das Experiment. And the Idiots of von Trier.

I left the cinema during

I'm too curious to see what happens next, even if that kills me from boredom and despair. But I can't do cheap sentimental recipes. i absolutely hate it when the director tries to grab you with easy schmoltzies. But I respond wholeheartedly to a deep emotional ambience.

Directors I love

Bergman, Tarkovsky, Fasbinder, Kislowski, Bresson, Ozon, Allen (not lately), Hartley, Wenders, Herzog, Sokurov Fellini. Also the surreal/experimental cinema.

Actors I admire

The brave and the chameleons. The actors of David Lynch, en masse. Wilhem Dafoe, Christofer Walken, Cate Blanchet, Winona Ryder.

Writers I respect

Samuel Beckett, David Mamet, Angela Carter, Will Self, Albert Camus

My desert island discs

I would compromise with anything of Doors,Leonard Cohen, Tintersticks, Tom Waits, Laurie Anderson

Books I have given my friends

Utterly innummerable.i remember Kafka's correspondence with Milena, the stories of Von Saccher Masoch, Ezra Pound and Joyce Mansour poetry etc.

My death row meal

2 soft boil eggs with soldiers and an avocado.

The best thing I own

My books, but i'm not personal-property fanatic anyway. My cheapo-holiday-snapper camera. My belief that 'everything will be alright' at the end.

More about me

My creativity peak was when i was working for a tv channel in Greece(Corfu channel)as a producer/director/presenter of a weekly art&literature magazino.I applied some of my best ideas and lasted for 2.5 years. To consider myself not a zombie, I have to live a life which is a diet of emotional turmoil and ideas. Ideas, struggling with them, making something out of them and living with as much lack of prosaic element as possible. Surreal sense of humour, strong thrills, lively intellectual and creative life are a few others... I'm always a sucker for the combination of kind/intelligent people to work and play with.
