| Films I wish I had made |
Bladerunner, Jaws, A Matter of Life & Death, Black Narcissus... Dammit, you would ask, wouldn't you? They always go out of my head when people ask. Loads of them, just loads... |
| I cried watching |
Field of Dreams...every time. You've got to be stone cold dead not to cry at that one. Shawshank Redemption. ET. |
| I left the cinema during |
Mad Cows. I walked out after the first twenty minutes. Yikes! Staggeringly, astonishingly bad. Not just a blight but a full scale plague on Anna Friel's career. I should have walked out on Batman Forever. Wow, was that bad. And Bridget Jones and Bend it Like Beckham...I didn't walk out on them, but they so p***ed me off for largely being movies for their soundtrack albums. Angel; sorry Romola. |
| Directors I love |
Powell & Pressburger, Lean, Kubrick, Spielberg, Hitchcock, Howard Hawks, John Huston, Billy Wilder. The early John Carpenter, same for David Cronenberg. The bizarro-ness of David Lynch. Beat Takeshi. Kurasawa, and I admire Andrzej Wajda's work, more 'cos I studied it at college. |
| Actors I admire |
Cary Grant, for one. I like his suave, cosmopolitan persona. There are others. I'll get back to you... |
| Writers I respect |
Aaron Sorkin, William Goldman, Joss Whedon, Dick Clement & Ian La Frenais, Nigel Kneale, Dennis Potter, Emeric Pressburger, and yes... Talbot Rothwell. |
| My desert island discs |
Propaganda's "A Secret Wish", I never tire of it. Marriner's collection of various Vaughn-Williams, John Tavener's "The Protecting Veil"...it always gives me a lump in my throat. Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" & "Dark Side of the Moon". Well, you have to really, don't you? "Best of" albums I suppose; The Beatles, Madness, ELO, 10CC, REM, Peter Gabriel. |
| Books I have given my friends |
Rarely get the chance to, as there aren't many I'm so overwhelmed by I want to pass on. I also know I'll never see them again if I do. Now if you'd asked me what books there were I thought no-one should read, I'd say without hesitation "Dwellers" by Roger Elwood. A book so appalling I hang on to it simply to spare anyone else suffering the horrors of reading it. Though if you'd asked what books I'd give an enemy, I'd say I'd hand it over faster than an un-pinned grenade. |
| My death row meal |
Irrelevant. We don't have a death row in Blighty, and I don't plan on being on it if we had the sad misfortune of creating one. |
| The best thing I own |
My mind, though that came with the package. There is no one material thing really I can think of...they all pass away and become obsolete. |
| More about me |
Julian Boote is a Welshman by chance, a writer, actor and filmmaker by preference, and (sometimes) an office administrator out of necessity. After three years apparently studying film & art history at Reading University, he successfully fooled his tutors into parting with a BA honours degree. He has been producer, director and/or a writer on a number of low budget independent feature films, and now maintains a constant vigil for someone willing to watch them. Julian writes short stories in his spare time, solely to stay sane, you understand. He sleeps whenever he can feasibly get away with it. It is after all one of his favourite and most productive hobbies. |
