This posting of 31/5/09 was rejected by Shootingpeople without any explanation. Synecdoche and all that---------------------------------------------- Surely Shootingpeople.org should really be moving on from the film of nearly the the same name - for it does have a number of faults and is not a particularly good exemplar for makers of flicks. For starters, it was written, directed and produced by the same person, a perfect recipe for a disaster - which has come about. It had a budget of approximately 20millionUS and its world-wide takings to date are around 3.25millionUS - so it has lost a fairly huge sum of money. It is too pleased and a bit too clever with itself for audiences. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------But if there is to be a revised little contest - having changed the rules - why on earth extend it to August 1? That is 8 weeks ahead - in which time 116,121,600 frames could have been watched, by which time a further 7,840,000 people will have been born, Synecdoche, N.Y will still have taken less than 3.5millionUS, Edinburgh will have been and gone about 33 days, the government may well have collapsed and perhaps at least 56 more SP main bulletins will have been produced. Maybe it would be better not to alter the rules, nor to extend the time scale - but for you now to proclaim a winner and for you to give us a pictorial demonstration of a synecdoche. Even if not exciting, that would be interesting. simon 31/5/09
