Final Cut Pro delivers high-performance digital nonlinear editing, native support for virtually any video format, and facility-class extensibility and interoperability. Editing with Final Cut Pro

This course is designed for new editors and directors looking to take the first steps into editing. Also suitable for filmmakers with some experience of editing who want to brush up on their techniques. Over the course of two days, you will learn how to digitize, edit, add transitions, titles and utilize effects. Through out the course the tutor will be able to advise students on their own projects and ideas. Experience of Mac OSX is desirable. Course

A Two Day Practical Introduction to Final Cut Pro taught by an Apple Certified Tutor. This course will enable participants to learn and understand how to set up an editing suite, edit video and export using Final Cut Pro. Taught on powerful new iMacs containing Final Cut Studio 3. Each student will work on their own workstation. The course will be taught using FCP 7 but will cover the changes made for the stripped down Final Cut Pro X.

For those wishing to expand their knowledge, there is an Intermediate FCP weekend course scheduled for May. Savings can be made if you take both together, or with our other editing courses. For more information please click here.

At the end of the course, the learner should: 



• Use the Apple Macintosh interface to load, save and navigate to files.

• Identify different audio/video cables and their uses. 



• Explain what digital video is and connected concepts like timecode, project files, media files.

• Show skill in capturing video in an ordered and logical manner. 



• Identify key features of the Final Cut Pro interface such as Browser, Timeline, Viewer and Canvas windows.

• Explain the importance of markering footage before using the timeline.

• Identify when, where and what to change on the interface.

• Compare different approaches to editing based on various types of source footage.

A two day practical workshop in Final Cut Pro taught at an intermediate level by an Apple Certified Tutor. This course will enable participants to learn and understand how to edit sequences of digital video, customise Final Cut Pro for specific tasks, create broadcast standard titles, and to use effects and colour correction to achieve a professional edit. The course will be taught using FCP 7 but will cover differences with the new stripped down FCP X.

This course is ideal for anyone who already has a good basic working knowledge of Final Cut Pro or who has taken the Insight course Introduction to Final Cut Pro.

At the end of the course, the learner should be able to:

• Edit a short sequence of digital video using a variety of edit tools.

• Identify ways in which Final Cut Pro interface can be customised to suit a particular task.

• Show skill in creating broadcast safe titles for video.

• Use a range of key frameable effects to change a piece of video (blurs, speed, time remapping, motion settings)

• Identify key tools for colour correction.

• Demonstrate effective media management for online output and backup.

Each day is self contained, but there is a discount for those who choose to attend both.

Own laptops and editing media are optional, though desirable if you have access - we do not provide hardware or software in these workshops.

Final Cut Pro X has redefined the post-production process for journalists and video professionals. Until now all non-linear editing systems were based on film editing.

FCP X works with new paradigms from tapeless workflows. The workshop will step you through this revolutionary new way of editing by taking you through an edit from start to finish.

We'll look at how to import and organise your media, create a rough cut, trim and cut, add music/effects/titles and voice over, colour correct and export for multiple platforms.

This one day workshop will inspire participants to think about storytelling from an editor's perspective. How can you construct the most effective narrative from your raw material? What should you be concentrating on when building your story?

This workshop is designed to help you confidently make decisions in order to create concise and powerful digital narrative. We will look at theoretical approaches and apply them to practical tips and tricks. We'll also analyse scenes from documentaries, films and news pieces to illustrate effective and stale storytelling.
