The Kiss

From Neil Hunt

About the film:

Collaboration:
Denise Callender, Neil Hunt, Kye Wilson

'The Kiss' is a lo-fi surrealist vision, which exists in the darker regions of the subconscious...
A set of five 60 second video pieces, which can be seen as a series or as
individual 60-second films (as a short film or installation). The work is inspired by Surrealist
philosophy and art: control, reason or moral narrative are ignored to allow the work to develop
in both the imagination of its creators and of its audience, permitting an absence of conscious
moral or aesthetic self censorship. There are visual references to Salvador Dali's trademark
liquid shapes in paintings such as "The Persistence of Memory" and also "The Lovers" by
Magritte.

The Kiss is a collaborative project by Denise Callender, Neil Hunt and Kye Wilson
from the growing video arts scene in Portsmouth UK. The creative team used Freud's theory
of free association and dream analysis in the planning and production of the film and both the
abstract and the psychological components are vital to interpreting the work.
