Things to make and do
Or rather, things to passively consume online. But good things!
This is not strictly indie film-relevant but it’s Friday so I think we’re allowed to go off-piste! You can watch the entire first episode of the new HBO comedy series Flight of the Conchords online now. They must have spent a fortune promoting this series because the NYC subway is papered with posters for it. Luckily it looks like it’s going to be good. I’m a sucker for Kiwi accents and it’s hard not to like these guys as they do their self-conscious, warm-hearted, low-key humor thing.

Another rather wonderful thing that I heard about ages ago but didn’t fully explore until today is Jaman, a movie download site specializing in world cinema. Right now you can rent movies FOR FREE or buy for cheap - including a bunch of fine movies from Dreamachine. Anthony Kaufman wrote about this on his indieWIRE blog back in early May but I was too distracted by something or other at the time to investigate.
And remember that Rooftop Films are on IFC.com all summer. A feast for short film lovers everywhere! I highly recommend Oh My God! It’s the film from June 10th and it’s a riot. Shooting People NY Editor Jesse Epstein has a film at their sold out New York Non-Fiction show this Friday night so if you were lucky enough to get tickets watch out for it. It’s called The Guarantee.
