Ah Say Anything - remember John Cusack as Lloyd Dobler? In his trench coat and hi-tops, boom box above head blasting Peter Gabriel’s In Your Eyes? Lloyd Dobler was cool and funny and sexy. Ione Skye’s character on the other hand was LAME, LAME, LAME. Do you even remember her name in the film? Exactly. Why would you? She had nothing to say for herself. Why would he fall for such an insipid Daddy’s girl? Thank god for Lily Taylor who just about saved the day playing Dobler’s friend and who was allowed to show a hint of personality and va va voom - precisely because she wasn’t playing the love interest.

I’m hoping that Diablo Cody is here to save us all from insipid girl characters. She’s become a super-hot screenwriter and has been getting a lot of buzz recently for Juno, directed by Jason Reitman. Cody also has a project in development called Jennifer’s Body. Here’s what she says about the film:

Incidentally, Megan Fox is hotter than the earth’s core. And now– Hollywood’s tiresome profusion of “girlfriend roles” be damned– she’s going to literally get out there AND DESTROY SOME FUCKING BOYS.

Cody is really funny and really smart and her blog is definitely worth a read.
