Shooters,

Virgin Media Shorts is back for its 4th year and, as ever, they return with one of the most sought after prizes offered to shorts filmmakers in the UK. The winner of the competition, as chosen by their panel of judges – including Paul Greengrass and John Hurt – will win up to £30,000 to make their next film as well as mentoring from the BFI for their next project. In addition to this, the winning film will be one of 12 that are selected to screen across Picturehouse cinemas and other leading independents in the UK for the next year, putting shorts back on the big screen where they belong!

Shooters Success Stories

We were full blast behind Virgin Media Shorts last year, so we were thrilled when Oscar Sharp picked up 1st prize for his film Sign Language. This went on to win 1st place in our own Film of the Month competition, and it also received a BIFA nomination. If that wasn’t enough, Shooter Jason Wingard won the People’s Choice Award alongside Gino Evans for their film Bus Baby. Bus Baby also went on to become a finalist in Film of the Month, in which Michael Winterbottom described it as “A funny and unsettling film that makes use of some good visual effects in tackling a social issue.”

Out of the twelve filmmakers shortlisted in 2010, eight were Shooting People members; James Spinney, Tito Sacchi, Jon Drever, David Williams, Kate Anderson and James Cooper.

Great work everyone! Let’s try and get 12 Shooters on the big screen this year!
