I have no idea why this didn't win film of the month!!! 'It was beaten by a film of a man being hit with an umbrella???'...how was that possible? Just goes to show some people just don't know production values when they see it! Good work Alex.
The other thing about this film that occurred to me was how relevant it would be to the ipod generation, or how people would see it without knowing the original story? It really only hits the mark when you make the comparison, I found myself doing it all the way through the viewing. However it's still a good piece in it's own right. In the little time you had the characters were defined, particularly Nana, aside from the fairy tale originals who were generally just either nice or nasty. It reminded me of an intense council estate based family drama from the early 80's! Keep it up!
Thanks for the feedback everybody. Kenny, Ellie Paskell is a trained and experienced actress. I totally agree about the lighting in the fight scene but that was one of those, running out of time on a cloudy day with the sun going in and out. Considering what the rushes were like the colourist has done a fantastic job. I believe that what makes anything worth watching are the actors. If you get the casting right, your 75% there.
Clever take on the story. Thought the performances were great, particularly Ruby, she was really believable. Obviously trained and If she's not already doing this professionally, she needs to get started! Sound recording was good. Wasn't that taken with the almost constant hand held work but I appreciate what it gave. My only real criticism was the lighting in some shots, I felt the natural light could have done with a lift in places inside the flat, especially in the scene with Ruby and Louis fighting. Overall an enjoyable film, what really makes it is the acting... or the performances you were able to extract as a skillful director! :)
