Thank you everyone for your comments, it has been a good experience and I enjoyed making the film. I am not sure we will shoot in rain FX next time as it makes shooting twice as difficult (esp. with sound rec). I will certainly be taking on board a lot of your comments for the next film. All the best, Neil.

    Lovely modern fable. Enjoyed it.

Beautifully shot, lovely attention to detail, great overall tone. It's also a neat idea, and I think you're a hero for making this short. But I, too, feel it edges into the overly sentimental. Imho, it's down to the cancer-daddy (no offence, my dad had cancer) line and the interaction between the mother and daughter. I think you needed a little dark linger there with more evident pain and awkwardness, to balance the sweetness. This would also make the rain running shot all the more exuberant. Like when Bambi sees her mother shot dead, then frolicking with her new buck two scenes later.

Hi Neil and well done. I do like very much the way you shoot, comes out very nicely and got the happy feeling with it.

Very nicely shot... but I have to admit I fall into the 'too sickly sweet' category that you graciously own up to yourself. Difficult subject matter to tackle and not make it feel too sentimental, granted. Just a tad too Disney for my taste. Sorry.

    Hi Neil,
Congratulations on a really well made little film. Poignant, thought provoking and yet bought a big smile to face. Thank you!

@ Bruce, yes it would be the worst commercial in the world. Zero product placement, zero brand identity and a little long for any advertising slot I know of!

Not quite sure how you would mistake this for a commercial???

@ David. This is a platform for all films made by shooters, not all commercials have a budget! It was a bit presumptuous of you to assume it was a commercial and make a sarcastic dig to boot without knowing any different!

@Chris. I thought the only difference between a radio play and a movie was budget! The vast majority of movies begin as stories and stories work as spoken word by definition, I'm not sure what you mean by suggesting it might 'belong' as a radio play when so much more can be had when the characters are visualised. As a film it has far better emotional sway-how would you convey the vibe of the Mum walking out into the rain any more convincingly than with moving image? Narrated it would be woefully short of the emotion given by Nina in that scene. This story was floating around on an email for years but I think this film-aside from my obvious bias-does that story serious justice.

I think it's fair to say every radio play would love to be a film...given enough money!
