About this film

Skateistan: To Live And Skate Kabul is a short documentary that follows the lives of 2 young skateboarders from Afghanistan who take part in the Skateistan project. In the film 17-year-old Murza explains, "Life is hard in Kabul. It is solely through the support of Skateistan that Im standing now." Skateistan is a hub of female activity as well, with female students like 12-year-old Fazila, who works on the street selling chewing gum to help support her family. Despite her efforts, sometimes her family still cant afford to eat. Skateistan has opened up another world for her offering an outlet away from the harsh streets. "At Skateistan I dont feel like my surroundings are ruined, I feel as though Im in a nice place," she says. In a country with innumerable problems, Skateistan represents an oasis where children can be children and build the kinds of cross-cultural relationships that Afghanistan needs for future stability. For more information about the amazing Skateistan project please check out www.skateistan.org
