East Street, the birth place of Charlie Chaplin and famously featured in the title sequence for Only Fools and Horses, has been a market street and home to successive generations of South Londoners for well over 200 years. Over those years the street and its inhabitants have borne witness to massive economic, political, social and cultural changes. Shot in one Saturday in May 2011, 'East Street' presents the diverse and bustling market through the eyes of the people in it.
