Over 50 new films are uploaded to Shooting People each month. Film of the Month draws attention to the best new films made by our 35,000+ Members.

Each month, Members view and rate their peers’ films, creating a Leaderboard. The three films at the top on the first day of the following month go through.

These films are sent to one of Shooting People’s high-profile patrons, who gives a personal review to each, and then chooses the Film of the Month.
Only full Members of Shooting People can play: join now for £30 per annum.

Shooting People’s Patrons include Morgan Spurlock, Mike Figgis, Danny Boyle, Martha Fiennes, Asif Kapadia, Stuart Beattie, and Nick Park.

Shooting People Founding Patron Mike Figgis selected the first Film of the Month on 2 February 2009. You can watch it, and the other two highest voted here.

I've uploaded my film to Film of the Month. Now what?

Your Member peers will now watch and rate your film. It needs at least five separate 'rates' to make the Leaderboard.

Double check you've credited as many people on the film as possible. If they're Shooting People members, the film will then appear on their profile, as well as yours. This helps enormously promoting our Members' work to the industry. Share the love..

I want to win. What can I do?

  • post into the Daily Bulletins a diverting or funny story about your film with a link to it, we'll run the post;
  • e-mail everyone you know the link to your film – can’t beat the support of friends.
  • put a link up on your blog / facebook / myspace/ page. Have a good old tweet on Twitter too.
  • is your entry a graduation film? If so, tell your university and get them to support your campaign. They can tell other students to watch your film.
  • post into filmmaking forums and tell people about your film. You never know, you might find some fans.
  • did a Screen Agency fund your film? If so, tell them about it. They’ll feel like proud parents and might want to tell others. Or did someone else give you a hand? Local borough council? Kit supply shop? Butcher, baker, candlestickmaker... get them busy, also.
  • watch, rate and comment on other Shooters’ films. You belong to a real community of filmmakers who respond well to support and feedback.
