Having sat on our panel at LSFF on film funding, we have the wonderful Pegah Farahmand in as our Film of the Month judge for February. Pegah is the Editor for Channel 4’s Random Acts, a position created for her at the start of last year.

Random Acts is a dedicated arts strand set up by Channel 4 in 2011, created to invite bolder, more innovative and creative commissions for the broadcaster. C4’s Random Acts welcomes the kind of unclassifiable and uncategorisable projects that had struggled to find a place there before.

Joining Random Acts from VICE, Pegah was brought in to bolster, diversify and reinvigorate the platform. She spent 10 years with VICE, aiding the rapid expansion they experienced at the time by connecting them with filmmakers like Spike Jonze, Jonathan Glazer and Sally Potter, as well overseeing the content from brand partnerships including Google, Ford and Nike.

Pegah’s appointment at Random Acts followed a £3m investment from the Arts Council and initiative to supercharge the strand. In her time there, Pegah has worked towards developing young talent through the Random Acts Network, as well as sourcing films from across her network and applying her taste towards commissioning new works.

She regularly sits on industry panels and juries, most recently for Film London’s Jarman Award, and DepicT!, Encounters Festival’s short film competition, so get your entries in to stand the chance of having them seen by one of the film industry’s most preeminent tastemakers.

The top 3 filmmakers for February will also get the chance to pitch an idea for a Random Acts film to Pegah in person, and to receive feedback and advice on making short films for online platforms. Submit here.
