Shooting People and Revolver Entertainment proudly present Destricted - a film competition, to be judged by Mathew Barney
The American sculptor, filmmaker, performance artist and fabulist - of Cremaster film and Restraint Drawings fame - is judging Shooting People's Film of the Month in October.
Barney is one of the directors in Revolver's Destricted, a DVD compilation of explicit films intended to illuminate the points where art meets sexuality, released in the US by Revolver early November 2010.
Jesse Pearson, Editor in Chief, Vice Magazine described Destricted as "a multi-purpose, beautiful and smart experience that appeals to your head and your lap in equal measure"._
Destricted is the first short film collection of its kind, bringing together sex and art in a series of films created by some of the world's most visual and provocative artists and directors. They reveal the diverse attitudes by which we represent ourselves sexually. Artists include Cecily Brown, Larry Clark, Sante Orazio, Marilyn Minter, Gaspar Noé, Richard Prince and Tunga.
The eight films presented explore the fine line where art and pornography intersect. The films highlight controversial issues about the representation of sexuality in art; opening up debate of the question whether art can be disguised as pornography or whether pornography can be represented as art or as something else altogether. The result is a collection of explicit, stimulating, challenging, provocative, strange, and sometimes humorous scenarios.
Revolver first released Destricted in the UK only in 2006. Shooting People ran a film upload competition to celebrate, judged by Larry Clark. For inspiration, watch the six shortlisted films from the 2006 competition here.
The brief for this competition is wide: we want films that tease out that subtle intersection of art and pornography. All genres are acceptable: narrative, documentary, music video, serious or funny, straight or bent. You can make a new film for the project, submit an older one, lift a scene or two from previous work ... . It's up to you.
If you upload your film to Shooting People in October, it will be entered into this competition. You can opt out of competing if you like. That will be made clear on upload.
To enter, please go to your profile, click MY WORK AND CREDITS and add your film. If the film you would like to enter already exists on your profile, click ENTER/APPLY and tick the relevant box.
