Do you have an idea for a great movie? Are you an aspiring filmmaker? This event will consider essential steps in the filmmaking process:

- Writing the successful film script

- The roles of director and producer

- Funding the production

- Attracting cast and crew

- The film shoot

- Festivals, distribution and beyond

An expert panel will include filmmakers with experience in writing, directing and producing movies. The speakers will discuss their successes in both short films and feature-length films. The event will be chaired by Toby Norways, Senior Lecturer in Scriptwriting at the University of Bedfordshire.

Biographies

Greer Taylor Ellison, Head of Development/Partner - Blue Shadows Films

From 2010-13, Greer studied a 3-year BA Scriptwriting degree under Toby Norways, tonight’s compere. As a writer, Greer’s debut feature, ‘Butterfly Kisses’ premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, where it won the Crystal Bear for Best Film.

Greer’s follow up feature is ‘Cranley Gardens’, the story of an estate agent given the impossible task of trying to sell the flat where Dennis Nielsen committed his gruesome murders. ‘Cranley Gardens’ is due to premiere later this year.

Greer has also won the BBC Writersroom Drama Writing Competition, the Cinestory Screenwriting competition (2017) in LA, and has been a finalist in the Sundance Screen Writing Lab and the Film London Microwave Scheme.

Merlin Merton, Producer/CEO - Blue Shadows Films

Merlin has previously produced music videos, acquiring two UKMVA nominations for 'Tiny Ruins: Carriages', and 'Bombay Bicycle Club: Luna', before setting up Blue Shadows Films in 2013.

He executive produced '10,000 Saints' starring Oscar-nominees Ethan Hawke and Hailee Steinfeld which premiered at Sundance; and 'Wild Oats' starring Oscar-winners Shirley MacLaine and Jessica Lange, picked up by Sony and The Weinstein Company.

After the success of 'Butterfly Kisses', he is now in post-production on 'Cranley Gardens'. He is also completing post on two other features, 'The Flood' starring Lena Headey and Iain Glenn, and 'Reprobate'.

Merlin has had projects accepted at film markets including the IFP in New York, the PFM, and the Pitch & Meet in Warsaw. He's also sat on the panel for the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writer's Competition.

Martin Gooch – Director, Writer, Producer, and Director of Photography.

Martin has a Masters Degree in Screenwriting from the University of the Arts, London. He has worked extensively in TV, on programmes such as Doctors (BBC), Hollyoaks (C4) and Spooks Interactive, which won a BAFTA and was nominated for an EMMY. He has directed more than 20 short films and four features. Between them they have won/been nominated for 40 awards including six Best Director and six for Best Movie. His feature The Gatehouse won best Sci-Fi/Horror at the London Independent Film Festival in April 2017, and is distributed by Lionsgate. His latest feature Black Flowers filmed in California and Montana had it’s world premiere at Sitges in October and will be released internationally in 2019.
