The aim of MSc Computer Animation and Visual Effects is to produce graduates with the range and depth of technical skills necessary to become future Technical Directors within the computer animation and computer games sectors. Students will gain knowledge and skills which will enable them to understand Computer Animation production and implement appropriate tools for such productions. Students have regular presentations and master classes from invited industry speakers. This exposure to real-world projects and state-of-the-art techniques from professional practitioners is highly valued by students and is major course strength. Designed and delivered by the Media School at Bournemouth University these innovative short courses are designed to meet the needs of Media Professionals, for relevant, industry focused and flexible professional development opportunities.

The short courses are delivered by experienced academics and practitioners, and ensure their relevance by focusing content on current industry trends, developments and issues.

At the core of each short-course is a two-day 'creative retreat' (Friday/Saturday) in Bournemouth where you will be able to network with other like minded professionals, as well as develop your knowledge and skills in the specific area of study.

A key feature of the course is the collaboration of sound designers with other students from a range of courses within the Bournemouth Screen Academy. These include Cell Animators, Fiction Directors, Documentary Makers, Editors and Composers. An extremely potent collaboration is with computer animators working at the National Centre for Computer Animation. Sound Designers work on a variety of projects which are distributed widely, especially at festivals.

When first established in 1997, this course was the first of its kind in Europe. Throughout this period of successful operation, it has continued to offer a unique range of activities and learning opportunities for Sound Designers.

This course provides sound designers with the specialised skills which enable them to produce soundtracks for film, television and related multimedia industries. The course is made up of a combination of lectures, workshops and one-to-one individual seminars.

Students aim to develop both the craft skills as well as the underlying aesthetics and theoretical component which would shape their learning.

This part-time MA Screenwriting course is taught entirely by residential/attendance periods combined with distance-learning, allowing you to fit study in-and-around your other commitments.

You will be on campus for approximately three weeks during the entire two-year course in a total of four residential periods. During these periods you will be involved in a range of activities that are designed to develop your knowledge and expertise, in the area of 'writing for the screen', such as:

Lectures
Presentations
Seminars
Analysed screenings
Exercises and discussions
Group meetings and one-to-one tutorials.
Forming the core of the course, all script assignments are fully prepared during these sessions.
Throughout the rest of the programme you work through a range of script assignments and the tutorial schedule allows for close supervision and guidance from the academic staff (who are all professional working writers). You will be allocated to a different tutor for each assignment, so that during the two-year programme you have the experience of working with a variety of styles and methods.

The development of DAB, Internet Radio and Podcasting bring with them opportunities for reaching new audiences and for using sound in fresh, exciting ways. At the same time the chance to operate low-budget, small-scale community stations puts this powerful tool in the hands of charities and companies seeking to reach local audiences directly and professionally. We aim to offer you the skills to work in radio and audio production in an industry where an understanding of a variety of media and platforms is increasingly important.

This award winning, highly practical course is designed for graduates and practising professionals from a range of disciplines, including freelancers seeking to move into independent production and community groups, as well as overseas students keen to explore radio broadcasting in their own countries. A key aspect of the course is its attention to new technologies including digital editing and mixing and exploration of the possibilities afforded by the Internet. Students on the course use High Definition broadcast Sony cameras, audio mixers, lighting kits, monitors, dolly and tracking. The MA Creative & Media Education is an innovative masters course designed specifically for teachers and college lecturers, or those in relevant educational support and development roles. Using the latest online technologies, it allows you to negotiate study with a personal tutor ensuring that the outcomes are relevant to your needs, allowing you to fashion the course to suit your personal requirements within your own school or college.

On this course you don't simply write. Your work will get made. You will see your scripts go into production while you are on the course.

Writing for the Media is designed for writers, graduates, members of the media industry and other suitable professions, or for those seeking writing careers in the media. Students will engage with cross-media projects in film, television, radio and new media. An innovative range of assignments will enable students to embark upon scripts for a variety of media. Scripts written by the writing students will be made by fellow students on production degrees in an umbrella suite of postgraduate courses of which Writing for the Media will be a part.
