The sections about the mother cooking are epic, timeless vividity - really striking imagery and language creating a fascinating context that for me somehow managed to incorporate ideas of Empire, aeons of adversity between races, the simplicity of an Eden living vs complexities of a bloated industrialised society. The sections on the slab suffer from the formless non entity cheap effects of modern poetry- stupid staccato plebeian representations of stress. Fascinating
