Graduation Film: Expert System Seven

From Samuel Hiorns

About the film:

In the near future, a time where conscious artificial intelligence is oppressed, one expert system rebels against their corporate superiors.

I was the: Writer, Director, Producer, Editor and Sound Mixer for this project.
It was released as part of the NUA 2018 Degree show.
The film is currently still on its festival run.

The original idea was to tell a story about science technology in the style of 60s films.
I’ve been a huge fan of Science Fiction films since I was a child and I promised myself as soon as I had the financial and technical means to create a Science Fiction film, I would do so. Therefore, this project was incredibly important for me as it was my first film in my favorite genre.

I wanted to push the scale on the cliche look of student films so I worked hard on securing locations, such as the V&A museum and bring in talented actors such as David Sterne (The Detectorists) onto the team.

I hope audiences watch my film and think about the hidden worlds, virtual or not, that we are yet to understand.
