Shooters Q&A

Films I wish I had made: I LOVE documentaries, most recently blown away by Gasland, The Oath, Enjoy Poverty!, The Red Chapel, October Country, Waltz with Bashir, Utopia in Four Movements, The Horse Boy, Loot, In A Dream and Winnebago Man. Also love: There Will Be Blood, Out of Africa (can't help myself), Andrew Haigh's Weekend, Samson & Delilah, Shortbus, Fast Cheap and Out of Control, Together, Once Upon A Time In The West, The Lives of Others, Munyurangabo. Wholphin!!!
I cried watching: Any sappy film where animals get lost and have to find their way home despite nearly drowning and being chased by rabid wolves and large bears
I left the cinema during: I can't leave DURING a film even if it's so bad it leaves me depressed for weeks
Directors I love: Errol Morris, David Gordon Green, Lukas Moodysson, Werner Herzog, James Longley. Hang on, why are these all men? Kim Longinotto, Laura Poitras and all the other women kicking documentary butt.
Actors I admire: Donald Sutherland (oh my god, have you seen him in Fellini's Cassanova? Unbelievable!), Peter Sarsgaard (he's so dreamy), Meryl Streep (Out of Africa is one of my guilty pleasures, I love every overblown minute of it)
Writers I respect: Charlie Kaufman, Ben Hecht
My desert island discs: You Are The Generation That Bought More Shoes and You Get What You Deserve
Books I have given my friends: The Gift, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, What is the What, Mukiwa, Don't Let's Go to The Dogs Tonight, Long Walk to Freedom, What A Carve Up, Foucault for Beginners (ha!), 28 Stories of AIDS in Africa, Midlands, Pride and Prejudice
My death row meal: Haribo Sour Mix and Tattinger Champagne
The best thing I own: My dad's old Super8 camera, a steely will in the face of insurmountable obstacles
More about me: I love documentaries. I love independent films. I love short films. I love South Africa. I love making things and pulling things apart. I love Meerkats. I love cheese. I love tequila, whisky, red wine and beer but not necessarily in that order because that would be bad. I want a pair of moon boots and to live forever.
