News: Short Cuts

Posted July 3rd, 2017 by Matt Turner

For the 10th anniversary of Shooting People’s ‘Film of the Month’ – during which SP partnered with over 100 industry judges including Danny Boyle, Andrea Arnold and Stephen Woolley – the competition has now evolved into SHORT CUTS.

In line with Shooting People’s mission, SHORT CUTS will recognise the brightest and best in independent filmmaking, unearthing new talent and rewarding filmmakers for their efforts; increasing exposure towards their work; giving them industry feedback, advice and support; and connecting them with individuals with the capacity to elevate and transform their careers.

Drawing from our community of filmmakers, as well as curating externally, the competition finalists will be selected through quarterly seasonal ‘rounds’. Shortlisted filmmakers will win mentorship from BFI NETWORK, Creative England, Channel 4 Random Acts, and Lightbox Entertainment and Wildgaze Films, prizes from RØDE, Blackmagic Design, Final Draft, Little White Lies, Close-Up Cinema, Picturehouses, MUBI, and their shortlisted film will be screened at a London venue. The BAFTA winning and Oscar nominated producer Stephen Woolley (Carol, The Crying Game) will select the winning filmmaker, who will receive the above prizes plus mentorship from producer/director Ian Bonhôte (Co-Founder of Misfits Entertainment & previously Pulse Films), mentorship from BAFTA winning and Oscar nominated producer Paul Webster (Founder of Shoebox Films, Atonement, Eastern Promises, The Motorcycle Diaries), production support from SP on future projects and £1000 film funding.

We’re tremendously excited to extend what we’ve been doing with Film of the Month, and elevate our offering for SHORT CUTS. Submissions open Jan 1st, and we will celebrate 20 years of SP by kicking off SHORT CUTS at a launch party on January 11th 2018.
