The New Shoots: Filmmakers Awards
The New Shoots: Filmmakers Awards are open now until 30 September ???? Enter your short films to win a Nikon Z 8 camera, mentorship from industry pros, and loads of other filmmaking kit and software.
The awards are open to ANY director, writer, or producer with any short film. It doesn’t matter if you’ve entered your short film in previous rounds, if your film can’t be shown online yet, or if you made your short film ages ago - SP wants to support old, new, private, or publicly available shorts.
Films are selected based on creativity, craft, and narrative building. Not budget, medium, or other ~ weird ~ unnecessary ~ random ~ industry rules and regulations. SP wants to level the playing field as much as possible. Enter The New Shoots: Filmmakers Awards here ????

On the night, SP is delighted to host a filmmaker Q&A with the award-winning multidisciplinary artist JIJO. JIJO's impressive body of work encompasses narrative shorts, documentaries, factual TV, and branded content, all characterised by a deep commitment to stories of humanism, contemporary culture, and systems of power. Having launched his own production company in the last few years, we’ll delve into his filmmaking journey and explore how he has successfully navigated and thrived in the industry.

Shure is (ALMOST) 100 Years Old ????
Crikey, Shure, the pioneer of audio tech, is nearly 100 years old ???? Founded just after 16mm film made its debut in 1923, Shure has been reinventing (or maybe even inventing?!) film audio ever since. Loved by audiophiles and filmmakers alike, Shure is supporting SP’s New Shoots Filmmaker Awards by giving a MoveMic Kit to the winner. This new wireless mic system is super portable + powerful + gives 24 hours of recording = 99 years of knowledge from Shure’s pros (that’s maths filmmakers can get behind) ????

- London Indian Film Festival is currently live and showcasing the best of films centring Indian and South Asian stories. 3 SP members were included in the programme, including Leah Rustomjee with Same Same? and Billy Dosanjh with Lumbu, both screening in the New Brit Asian Shorts strand, as well as LumbuHaider Zafar with Before Nikkah, a feature rom-com where we meet 2 British-Pakistanis on a blind date prior to an arranged marriage.
- 13 shooters worked on films which screened at the Oscar and BAFTA-qualifying Raindance Film Festival, spanning shorts and features, fiction and docs.

- New Voices: Step Up 2024 by the BFI Network South West hub is open for applications. This programme will provide mentoring opportunities for filmmakers who identify as being from a lower socio-economic background or who are currently unemployed or claiming benefits ????
