???? April at SP ????
Who’s Your Daddy?
Sooo, one of the favourite scenes from White Lotus Season 3 (SPOILER if you watch this vid) is Laurie’s hilarious bolting… ????
Explained by the actress Carrie Coon "Look I’m an American, and a New Yorker, and if you think I don’t know where the exits are in any building I’m in, then you’re not paying attention to the news"
Calling all video editors - £15 voucher for your thoughts
We’re teaming up with our friends at Evans Research again to find out how editors really feel about the software they use. Got 12–15 minutes? Fill in the survey and the first 300 respondents will get a £15 Amazon voucher ????. You’ll also be entered into a prize draw (including a £500 Amazon gift card).
There are currently 51 vouchers left, so move quick if you’re keen.
Vouchers will be sent within two weeks of completion. All answers are confidential and only used in aggregate.
Please only take the survey if you are a video editor.
Catch up on New Shoots: You're Taking The Piss - Making Comedy Films With No Money
Missed out on New Shoots? Or just want to revisit the good bits? The full recording is now up on YouTube, and there’s an audio version on Soundcloud too. Rhys Aaron-Lewis, Tia Salisbury and George Moore shared sharp, funny, no-nonsense advice about making comedy with next to no budget – well worth a listen whenever you've got a spare hour.
And great news - since the event, Rhys has officially hit his Kickstarter goal for Beach Toys - a darkly funny, surreal short about a stag do gone very, very sideways.
Dust off your film ideas...
Spring’s a good time to clear things out and bring something new in. Like a decent filmmaking network. We're offering our lowest-ever rate - just £5.95 for your first month, and you keep that rate if you stay on. Thousands of filmmakers, tonnes of support ????.
GO MEMBERS
- On the 1st May, our pals at Directors Notes are hosting the 2025 edition of the WeAreDN Awards at FOMO House in London ????. As well as a screening of the winning films, there’ll be celebratory drinks, networking, and a live DJ set. We’ve got a few shooters in the mix this year too - shout out to Sam Baron (Tall Dark and Handsome), Paul Chambers (Three Bull-Mastiffs in a Corner Kitchen), and Harry Plowden (All Gucci My Broski) who are all shortlisted across the British, Comedy, and Buckle Up categories. Get your tickets here.
- Theo Watkins' short Lode is now available to watch (for free!) on ALTER - a blood-soaked slice of domestic horror where a knackered mum finds something monstrous in the laundry.
GO LOOK
- Rachel Antell, archival producer behind films like Crip Camp, A Revolution on Canvas and Sabbath Queen. As a member of Archival Producers Alliance, she’s been leading their GenAI initiative, which includes the newly released Best Practices Toolkit - a practical guide for navigating AI in archival work.
- London Zoo’s uncovered 200 old film reels - some unlabelled, some just cryptic - and they’re on the hunt for film buffs to help ID what’s on them. Think pandas, chimps, or… total mystery. They’re also decaying, so it’s now or never.
- There’s a new community cinema collective in Haringey and they’re on the lookout for films for their debut season, themed around London’s Radical History. Think untold stories, everyday resistance, grassroots brilliance. Screenings will be PWYC and community-led. If your work fits the bill (any genre, any length), get it in by 30 May.
- Love them or loathe them, A24’s coming to the Prince Charles for a week in May - seven films, tenner tickets, and probably a tote bag or two.
