Technical Skills: Abel Rubinstein was recently named by VICE as one of the “Top Ten Filmmakers To Watch”. They described FUCK THE BOXES, Abel’s previous short film, as “poignant and sweet, but also hilarious”. Abel is a SHORTFLIX Alumni. A scheme created by Creative England and Sky Arts. On the scheme Abel was mentored by Kate O’Hara developmental exec, her credits include BAFTA nominated Apostasy and Lady Macbeth. After a crowdfunding round Fuck The Boxes went into production. Abel secured nominations at OSCAR qualifying Leeds International Film Festival, BAFTA qualifying London Short Film Festival, FilmBath and BFI Future Film Festival amongst others around the world. Abel is now in pre-production of his next short film The Folk Devil. Abel received mentorship from BAFTA and was matched up with BAFTA nominated Harry Lighton. He also was granted a BAFTA Guru Live Access Pass where he received a one on one with David Kayser at Cassaroto. Abel, a BFI Future Film Academy Alumni, first got into film when he was mentored by BIFA winning Rob Savage on the course. Instead of university he learnt through observation on set. Abel was a runner on numerous productions since the age of sixteen. These Include “Ian Mckellen: Playing The Part”, and “Goodbye Christopher Robin”. As an editor Abel cut the awarding winning “First Date”, “Blind Date” and feature documentary “Bam Bam”.
