Fun stuff:

Films I wish I had made:

None. A film is its own thing, unrepeatable. I admire many - Festen, Groundhog Day, The Truman Show - films that speak at a level beyond their superficial characteristics, be they comedy or drama or neither.

I cried watching:

All the above.

I left the cinema during:

I'll walk out of a film if it doesn't work - there's too many films that are worth watching to waste your critical energy on ones that aren't. If I'd seen Titanic in the cinema, I would have done.

Directors I love:

Peter Weir, Ridley Scott, Kubrick.

Actors I admire:

Rufus Sewell, Kathy Burke, Mark Rylance.

My desert island discs:

Pulp - Different Class, Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica, Rachael Yamagata - Happenstance

Books I have given my friends:

None - I keep ALL my books. Seriously.

My death row meal:

An elephant. That'll keep 'em busy.

The best thing I own:

My director's viewfinder, an old-fashioned motivsucher. Look through it, see the world on screen!
