About: Steel Homes takes the viewer inside the world of self storage, uncovering the hidden treasures and secrets behind the locked doors. Moving from steel cage to steel cage, we encounter tales of heartbreak, loneliness and despair; and stories of liberation, adventure and leaving the past behind. Self-storage units are windows into human histories: the silent cells with their discarded objects and dust-covered furniture are inscribed with past dreams, secret hopes and lives we cannot let go off. Directed by Eva Weber for the Scottish Documentary Institute, the film received its international premiere at IDFA in 2008, and its North American premiere at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
