Creating The Character Arc III
Creating The Character Arc III
A film weaves together two essential narratives: the subjective story, which focuses on the hero's inner transformation, and the objective storyline, the external plot that sets the stage for this change. The central protagonist will not be the same person at the end of the story as they were at the beginning; they must undergo a profound psychological transformation, or arc, to achieve their external objective.
This week’s seminar explores the thematic framework of this journey and provides practical tools to map the hero's transformation. We’ll examine how the protagonist confronts obstacles, from the Ghost of their past to the eventual assertion of the Theme. This is a vital session for understanding storytelling mechanics - don’t miss it!
A writer's workshop will follow the seminar. If you require feedback, please bring along your:
Pitches (film set-up idea in 50 words or less)
Synopsis (the entire story in 8 short paragraphs)
Scene (2-5 pages)
