New Writing: Screen Britain at BFI Southbank
New Writing: Screen Britain at BFI Southbank
In anticipation of the upcoming BFI Future Film Festival, the BFI Reuben Library welcomes Shelby Cooke, editor of the newly released film criticism anthology, Screen Britain.
Published by Film East — a Norwich-based film organisation, Screen Britain contains twenty original articles from fifteen young critics, filmmakers and creatives, all exploring Britishness as seen on screen. During this event, Cooke will give a visual reading from the book on Joanna Hogg’s The Souvenir, arguing that it establishes a new wave of British social realism on film. She will also introduce Film East and its mission to encourage those under 30 to interact with thought-provoking cinema.
Event attendees are invited to preorder their copy of Screen Britain for pick up at the event. Use code 'BFI' at checkout to avoid shipping fees. Alternatively, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase a copy of the book following the talk.
