Short Com Film and Animation Festival are excited to be returning with a brand new line-up of short films for their 2024 programme. Renowned around the world as one of the leading comedy specific film festivals for selecting the funniest and most eclectic short films by exciting emerging comedy filmmaking and performing talent. With many of their former alumni now going on to direct some of the most recent UK sitcoms.

We’re proud to have another super wide ranging selection of comedies from silly quick sketches, deftly dark shorts, period pieces and even highly emotive docs that we believe really celebrate the art of comedy and its capacity to not just entertain but also promote mental wellbeing. Films that have played at some of the most renowned festivals in the world such as Sundance and Tribeca to films making their UK premiere. We’re super excited to present these films to UK audiences and hopefully introduce a new short film to audiences.

The festival kicks off in London at the Genesis Cinema in Mile End on 28th of September with some of its most exotic and out there films with its programme Beyond The Rainbow for those who like their comedy left of field.

The following day we move to Rich Mix in Shoreditch with three back to back programmes celebrating all our British selected films as well as some of the best international and animation shorts.

On the day we’ll be teaming up with The British Comedy Guide, Directors UK and Festival Formula to host some midday networking bringing writers, performers and directors together from 12:30. At the end of the evening a special celebrity guest will present the Short Com awards for Best British Film, Best Animation and the winner of the Short Com TV Sitcom Writing Competition.
On the 2nd of October, Short Com returns to the Scottish capital at the Cameo Cinema with back to back programmes of National Treasures and Foreign Muck, following up the next day with Funimation and Love, Laugh, Live.

Our popular industry and networking day Comedy Connect returns and takes place on the Saturday 5th of October at the Grassmarket Community Project. Aimed towards giving those looking to break into the TV and film industry making comedy and help forge collaboration, we have four separate talks from industry experts passing on their knowledge and advice. We have industry experts from Film 4, former comedy commissioners at Comedy Central and Sky Comedy, script writing guru expert, BAFTA nominated talent and online comedy experts to help pass on some sage advice. Followed by our network drinks and screenings of Feeling Sketchual our programme of sketches to sprinkle some inspiration.
