Balu Mahi
From Ainy Jaffri RahmanAbout the film:
Balu Mahi is a journey that two very different characters embark on; a journey of self-discovery and love. The film starts with a runaway bride scenario that quickly gets pretty messy. We are taken on a hilarious adventure through the beautiful old streets of Lahore. In the second half, we see a complete shift in landscape as it is set in the beautiful mountains of North Pakistan during our famous Shandur Polo Festival, which takes place on the highest polo ground in the world. Without giving too much away but there is the obvious sports element here and a complete shift in Mahi’s character which audiences will just have to wait to see in the film itself.
Mahi is this indestructible force of nature; she's fearless, speaks her own mind, knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. She truly believes that she and only she, should be in charge of her own destiny and future, and that she can do this while keeping her strong Pakistani identity in tact. Mahi’s journey in the film is amazing. I hope she will be a role model for young girls everywhere.
Mahi's character has a shift in the second half, she is disguised as a boy!!!
The character is a very multi dimensional character, always an actors dream come true. In the beginning we see Mahi as a bit of a cute bully, but then we are exposed to a much more sensitive and vulnerable side when she opens up about her past. There is However, without giving too much away, I'll just add that I had to brush up on my horse riding.
