Crypsis

From Siobhan Fahey

About the film:

The film Crypsis explores a day in the life of Ayo Osinbajo who was forced to flee his country because of his sexuality. Due to a lack of evidence, Ayo's claim is denied and he must now go on a journey to explore the gay scene and document his interactions in a desperate bid to win his appeal and gain his leave to remain in the UK. As he enters into the shadowy world of Glasgow's nightlife he is faced with his own unexplored identity.
It is extremely difficult to obtain protection through the asylum process, and for the LGBTQI+ individual applying on the basis of their sexual or gender status, the journey can be extremely traumatic, invasive and long-winded, with no guarantee of success. Asylum law in the UK is complex and applications made by individuals seeking international protection are, more often than not, refused.
Chris McGill is an experienced Director who has delivered numerous community documentary and participatory film projects. He is highly ethical in his creative processes, and has come to this project as a result of previous work with asylum seekers. He wrote the screenplay with Angela Ross, a talented writer and factual Producer. He is working on this project with Producer Siobhan Fahey who was awarded a BAFTA Scotland (Best Short Film) in 2018 about a film that explored gay men and toxic masculinity.
