From Philip CarrAbout the film:
The true-life story of a legal clerk’s daughter, who, in 1665 inherits a valuable piece of land which will become London’s Mayfair, Belgravia and Pimlico, and marries into the nobility. Later, as a widow struggling against mental turmoil, she falls victim to a scandalous plot by two brothers to steal her estate from her.
The screenplay, the beginnings of London’s Grosvenor Estate, has been adapted from her biography, her letters and histories of the time. Woven in are lively scenes of 17th Century life – the notorious May fair, a chaotic hanging of a gay at Tyburn, the frost fair on the frozen Thames, among others.
