Vantar

From Rebecca Culverhouse

About the film:

Vantar (Icelandic for “missing”) is a modern fable in which the human race mysteriously vanishes, leaving no trace except for piles of clothes. In the perfect stillness of the world left behind, one man finds himself unscathed, yet completely alone. Hiking through the empty city of London, he searches for any other survivors, and the reason why everyone has gone.

The story and visuals for Vantar were originally created to match music by Sigur Ros as part of their Valtari Mystery Film Competition. The film was shot in Devon and London during the frenzy of the 2012 Olympics. After an unsuccessful result in the competition, the film was re-edited and given a new original score by Whirlygig Cinema, which was performed live during their event Making Tracks. It has since been shortlisted by Bird's Eye View Festival, selected as an IdeasTap Friday Film and reviewed by The Londonist.
