The Filmmaker Challenge returns for its 4th edition, offering six filmmakers the chance to create a short documentary in and around Sheffield during the 2025 festival. Mentored by Waad Al-Kateab, Academy Award® nominee and BAFTA/BIFA award-winning director, the selected filmmakers will work under a tight deadline to produce a 3-minute non-fiction film. The challenge includes £1000 funding, equipment, post-production support, accommodation, and a festival screening at Sheffield DocFest.
Open to filmmakers with at least 3 broadcast/film credits and affected by the recent production slowdown.

The grant covers all stages of production, including scriptwriting, shooting, and post-production. Successful applicants will also receive tailored mentorship from experienced filmmakers and a 121 session with BFI NETWORK talent executives.

FLAMIN Animations is now open for applications, offering early-career Black and global majority artists in England the chance to create a new animated short. Organised by Film London Artists' Moving Image Network (FLAMIN) and in partnership with Blinkink, the programme provides £3,500 in funding, mentorship from animation directors, and masterclasses with industry professionals.
Artists can apply with a 3-minute animation idea in any style or form, aimed at an adult audience. Previous FLAMIN Animations have screened at major festivals and galleries. Applicants must be based in England, not currently studying, and able to attend bi-monthly masterclasses in London (with travel covered for those outside the city)
