Fund / Bursary | Deadline: Aug. 20, 2025

One World Media, the Pulitzer Center and the Financial Times are teaming up to offer a major new opportunity for filmmakers from and working in the global south. They're looking for proposals for a short documentary (under 25 minutes) that tackles an underreported health story — whether that’s access to care, mental health, maternal mortality, or the next emerging threat. They’re especially keen on stories that explore solutions and systems, not just problems.

The selected filmmaker will receive up to £20,000, plus mentorship, exec support, and a commission from the FT, with the film published and promoted globally across all partner platforms. You’ll also join the 2025 One World Media Fellowship cohort.

The One World Media Fellowship supports mid-career journalists and filmmakers from the global south working across film, print, audio, photography or multimedia to develop original non-fiction stories that challenge stereotypes and raise awareness. Fellows receive a £1–3k reporting grant, one-to-one mentoring, industry workshops, and the chance to connect with global media outlets and a wider network of peers. The scheme backs projects that are already in pre-production and realistically deliverable within a year, with strong access and editorial intent.
