Advice for good Camera Head/Tripod to use for Stop Motion Animation

I would appreciate any advice from anyone as to the best Camera Head attachment to use for precise smooth movement for stop motion animation, with marked movement. I have a 50D canon camera and Manfrotto Tripod. Also any advice for Tripods, whether booms are needed, equipment to get shots needed at close-up angles within a small set with 3 walls. Camera arms/sliders. I have a limited budget and just looking at possiblities as to what will be the best equipment to buy for a small set animation. Any links would be great, I live in the UK. Thanks very much for your help.
