Advice for shooting in Spain or Greece

11 years, 6 months ago - Matthew Lawrence

Hi,

I'm based in the UK and am thinking of shooting a low budget feature set in an 18-30s holiday resort on one of the Greek or Spanish Irelands. We'd be looking to shoot guerilla style, hiring a villa as a base for the cast and crew.

I just wondered whether anyone has shot in this kind of location and can offer any advice, tips or legal/practical considerations? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,
Matthew

Dear Matthew,

I'm a cinematographer based in London but I come from Cyprus. My family owns a villa which could house up to 6 or more people. You can use the villa to shoot too if it suits your needs it does look a bit like a holiday resort. You can rent at a good price, even lower if I'm your cinematographer, Alexa, RED with cine lenses, all the lights and grips you need. Additionally I can get you some local crew members, 1st AC, AD, Gaffer, Key grip etc to avoid travelling and housing costs. Film permits are nothing to worry about in Cyprus you can shoot almost anywhere for free unless you need to close down a road or something, which is still much easier to do compared to the UK. Let me know what you think and feel free to contact me (details on my website).

Hi Mathew, I'm based in Marbella - Southern Spain - I have a Film & TV Production & facilities company with basic "kit" lights, track / dolly, camera mount, 4m crane, all based on DSLR or cameras up to 5kg. Other part of my business is Rentals of properties in this area, which fits in with my location finding, permit/permissions and crew accomodation sourcing. Avoid July & August - crowded & expensive. Best times here April - June and September to Mid November. Shooting guerilla style here not a problem, but with the (free) advice, help and permits of the local film office, you don't need to. Puerto Banus Port expensive permits, but there are free alternatives - just as good. Local "fixer" essential. That's me - let's talk - contact me at adrian@marbellaproductions.com or phone 0034 952 76 83 66.
