Advice on expenses with paid crew

9 years, 4 months ago - Dominic Bolton

I'm producing a short to be filmed later in the year. All crew are being paid, albeit not much more than minimum wage. My question is to what extent should I cover travel expenses for the crew? I would like to cover all travel expenses (within reason!) however obviously this is hiking up costs..

Would it be better to just pay everyone that little bit extra? Help?! :)

Honestly, it's up to you. Nobody working in any other job gets paid travel to their usual place of work (indeed, it's taxable), so assuming it's reasonable to get to where you're shooting, it's not unreasonable for people to get there if they are being paid legally.

Some people will take the job offer, some won't, but when shooting in London I don't pay travel except where they need to drive essential equipment.
