Advice on festival submission for experimental doc.

Hello fellow shooters,

I have just completed a new film in collaboration with Artist Mark Lyken. Our film, Mirror Lands, explores different people's relationships to 'place' on the Black Isle in the Highlands of Scotland. The film explores the delicate balance that exists between nature, rural life and industry in the area and challenges preconceptions of Highland life.

You can read more about it and watch there trailer here: https://vimeo.com/87459715

I would really appreciate any feedback anyone may have to offer on festival submission. The runtime is 67 mins long. I think our film sits somewhere between documentary and art film - it is experimental in it's approach, using local voices as 'voice over' without ever seeing the speakers themselves, across lingerings shots of land, sea and air. It becomes quite meditative, almost dream-like. I feel it is outwith the realms of traditional, narrative driven documentary, so any guidance or suggestions on festivals that you think such a film may work well in would be really useful. I am, of course, always keeping a keen eye on the Shooting People bulletin!

Many thanks.

I had a short in http://planetinfocus.org/ or Toronto Environmental filmfestival a few years ago. Lots of experimental, place based/nature based films there. Ive seen your trailer before- looks great.

Check out Oberhausen, which is experimental/arts based, although I'm not sure if they have running time restrictions. Definitely go for doc festivals too - Open City and Sheffield Doc/Fest in particular. I see Creative Scotland backed this, have you asked them for advice too?
