INDEXAdvices Needed for A Fresh Starter

Hey Guys,
I am an engineer consultant (completely irrelevant with filming industry) who wants to change career into filming. I really need some advices, and thats why im here!
Pros:
I am good with films, not only watching but also understand the scenes, scripts, know directors etc.
I have creative background (writing stuff)
I have some script ideas (3 synopsises)
Cons:
I dont know where to start.
I dont know anyone from film environment
Plan:
I will be part time at my job and give my remaining time to filming without any income expectations
So what would be your advise? If you were me, where would you start?
Writing something? Putting some money for short films and chase becoming producer way etc?
Any advices welcomed.
Btw, I am based in Cambridge, UK.
Thanks, best
Charlie

Before you do anything, understand what it is you want to do.
It sounds like the best bet would be for you to turn those synopsis into scripts, and then be aware that you'll probably have them produced as a collaboration with filmmakers who are also just starting out.
If you want to be a director and you have no experience and no contacts, you're looking at filming yourself.
This can be done on phones these days, but honestly, I would suggest at this juncture be part of the machine as opposed to be the whole machine yourself.
Put up an ad looking for people in your area who want to collaborate, and have an end-goal (are you making this short just for you, is it just see if it can be done, are you putting it up online, are you entering into festivals etc?).
I would lean heavily toward which of the three ideas can be shot cheapest, in terms of minimal locations (that you already have access to), minimal cast etc.

Hey James, thanks for the great advice. So in summary i understand that,
starting with synopsis > turn into script > collaborate with other amateurs to create a team > try to film with them as a team > apply to festivals etc. Thank you very much :)

Hi Charlie,
Pretty much. I'd even start putting out feelers for other creatives near you, maybe you can develop one of your ideas together, or your idea might be similar to an idea that have and you create together?
There's no real 'one way only' of doing things, just things make more sense than others given the circumstances.

Lean into the writing and I'd guess your engineering background has made you familiar with budgeting and project management.
So...try and write something you can afford to produce, and which can be shot with most other people being involved as collaborators (so they don't need to be paid at the front end).
