Affordable casting location central(ish)

8 years, 5 months ago - Stephan George

Hi,
can any one recommend some affordable casting space (like a small meeting room) in Central (ish) - or within good transport links? I know there is a lot out there, but wanted to check if anyone has something to recommend.
Many thanks!
Stephan

Hey Stephen, I've held a few castings in the Barbican, it's a huge building and if you go at time of day that's not busy then there's plenty of quiet spaces to use. Plus it's free, when I've used it the castings have never been interrupted, the staff were also really helpful with directing actors to the area I was holding the casting in - so it's worth considering even though it's not an actual casting space :)

Last September I hired a room at http://www.identityschoolofacting.com It was cheap compared to other places I looked at, and (the clincher for me) I didn't have to submit a Health and Safety assessment. Some other places did require such paperwork.

Actually, the studio / room hire part of the business has its own website - http://www.identitystudioslondon.com/

Hi Xenia.

Unfortunately our own studios are too busy to hire out however... there are several spaces you can use.

Your best bet is probably Spotlight Studios, as you are provided with uploading services, a camera and script printing.

Give them a call as you may be able to strike a deal.

Also raindance have been known to hire out spaces cheaply.

Thanks for finding those under half the price of Raindance . I will use them in the future!

I always use The Cockpit (http://thecockpit.org.uk) smallest room only 8£ per hour and decent sized medium room 12£.

Hi Xenia - the Barbican would appear to be in sharp contrast to the London parks who appear to consider filming of any description as some sort of heinous crime pursuing anyone holding a film camera as some sort of dangerous menace and threatening police prosecution etc. Anyone else with similar experiences? Or maybe it was just us they didn't like the look of......
