ASK & DISCUSS

After many years I have cancelled my membership

11 years, 4 months ago - Jonathan Williams

I remember shooting people as having once been an organisation which was actively engaged with the problems which continue to be-devil the British film industry. Or rather I remember the time when there were members who were concerned with 'what needs to be done'. Sadly, one by one, just about all these voices have fallen silent. Mine is about to, too.

Farewell.

how the hell do i cancel my membership

That's a shame. Perhaps in the absence of other people pressing for 'what needs to be done', you could have done so, or at least raised the discussion. You don't need to wait for others to strike up conversation.

I'm not sure myself what needs to be done though. I see an industry supported by tax breaks in a way similar industries aren't (music touring for instance), I see films getting made, deals being brokered, equipment getting so cheap and good you can shoot on a mobile phone, creative people being creative, etc. Not sure if you're still reading if you cancelled already, but it's be interesting to hear your thoughts.

Hey Jonathan,
Shooting People has a long history of getting involved in debate, but we always take that lead from the members. If at any time you think there's something we should be getting behind please do let us know. Speaking for everyone on the SP team, we're always happy to put our clout behind the things we believe in.

We mainly voice our opinions, and spread the word about good (industry related) causes on twitter so you should follow SP on there if you don't already. www.twitter.com/shootingpeople

Over the last year we've been focusing all of our attention creating a better website, and launching new services that are needed to make films and also do things like debate topics, find out about funding opportunities easily.

It's not really up to us to say what's important to everyone else, we're not really an institution in that sense. We belong to create a platform for filmmakers and other independent creatives to get their messages out there and find an audience for their opinions.

All the best,
Stephanie
