ASK & DISCUSS
INDEXAny advice on a camera or piece of equipment that will transmit the video/audio signal into another room for viewing on a TV screen/laptop.

I'm enquiring on behalf of a friend who needs to film a discussion in one room, with the footage being shown live in another - viewable on a computer and/or TV. They need video and audio and can't use an internet connection (so no wifi video routing).
A wired solution is possible but not ideal.
Anyone know of something suitable to be hired out?

first of all which type of signal are you dealing with coming from the camera?
if its HDMI from a DSLR then cable it through to a monitor - if its SDI signal you may need need a converter (to composite or HDMI) - again without knowledge of the equipment you have available its impossible to give you the correct advice -which ever it's easily solvable - doing this wirelessly however will involve some expense, although these days all the hardware is cheap and easy from Ebay - even HDMI and SDI!

Will a domestic video sender do the job? Pop into Maplin and have a look at what they've got.

You may be better off asking a local theater company or amateur dramatics company. They nearly always do this so the actors can see how it is going from the dressing rooms.

Actually, sounds like you could use WiFi, just not internet. Teradek Cube or Wireless HDMI would work. Teradek is nice because it can transmit to multiple monitors at once. Wired still better and cheaper though.

I second the Teradek. That's what all the pros use on set these days.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Wired would be ideal - but that Teradek Cube looks very interesting Sandy and is available for hire at a decent price. If not the Wireless HDMI from Maplin is an option.

I would definitely go hardwired if at all possible. Quality, setup time, reliability and cost will be much, much better than wireless, especially if WiFi is not an option.
