Hi Aegina,
What are you looking for? A feature or TV or shorts writer?
What genre are you most interested in?
Are you looking for existing material or to hire someone to write for you?
Is it paid, deferred or low/no?
Are you producing, directing, acting or all three?
I'll send you something if I fit the bill :)
Best

At the moment, "low budget" well written dramas are the preference. Good characters, dialogue, limited locations - easier to pitch. Like the film examples above. No I"m not optioning yet.

LOLZ ... what's funny is that there's a screenwriter's bulletin.. you'd think this kind of shenanigans would happen there too... but not a sausage

Hi Marlom, so many things dictate the budget of a movie. Especially genre.
"12 Angry men" "Gaslight" (1944 film) "The breakfast club" can all be made with 5k of 5 million depending on the quality of lighting, cameras, director, actors, locations, costumes etc. If you're writing sci fi - then it's totally different.
If you're asking me whether I want to produce a sci fi feature for 500k - then no. Because that's destined to be embarrassingly crap.

Hi
I read the reply to your call for writers and you say that you are interested in thriller/drama scripts. I have a feature length thriller /drama script that was awarded a script development grant from the UK Film Council. If you're interested I can send you the first 10 pages so you can see my style of writing.

Also... a good example of what I'm after is a style like "The Gift" or "Gone girl" - or "Sleuth". Minimalistic and slick.

Hi Lee,
I'm looking for a shorts & features writer... features preferable.
Genre's: thrillers, sci-fi, or very well written dramas
Not paid since I'd be promoting your work at this stage. Deferred if material is good enough to raise investment.
I'm an actress / producer. I work with an amazing team.

I'm with David here. Don't be sending out your work without engaging in proper face-to-face discussion first, and having done some proper checks to be sure that A DV has and can actually deliver. Some choice quotes that should have made you wary already:
"Not paid since I'd be promoting your work at this stage."
""The breakfast club" can all be made with 5k of 5 million depending on the quality of lighting, cameras, director, actors, locations, costumes etc."
To my mind, there's a lot of talk and confidence here with very little to back it up.
(Sorry A DV... if anyone's still reading this anyway...!)

Hey David... Jamie and the rest of you, my name is Aegina de Vas, I started out as an actress and am transitioning into a producing career. I don't have a website yet because I don't see any point until I evolve in my work. Over the years I've made a lot of great connections in the industry and wish to put those to good use.
Thanks to all of you who have a sent me your work so far, I'm sorry if I have not responded yet - I will once I get a moment to read it.
To be honest, Jamie - you're right, maybe I have nothing to deliver. I can't make promises at this stage in my career. I think your attitude is pretty negative. What has someone got to lose by sending me 10 pages of their work? Rejection? Please give me a break.
No producers meet face to face unless they know YOU have something worth fighting for. It's not paid, because everyone makes sacrifices at the beginning of their career. That's why I created this bulletin and am not emailing Aaron Sorkin.
It's a risk to for me to take on a first time writer's work - since it's much harder to get funding. As for being able to "deliver" ...even the biggest producers can't promise delivery.
Please note, I'm not seeking to steal anyone's work or harm anyone's ego. I'm simply looking for a writer with a style I dig - who I'd be excited about working with.

What's in it for the writer then if once you have found a script you like you're not going to option it? How do you plan to acquire the rights then if it's unpaid?

How low budget is low budget? What's your realistic upper bound? I'm assuming everyone gets paid properly, bedded, fed and watered etc, which puts a floor down that's way above what a lot of people think is low budget :-)
500K, Million? more?

So in answer to your question; as a producer it's my responsibility to allocate a standard budget that serves the script and represents the artists involved in the best light possible. For example - I spent 20k on a 10 minute short that would ordinarily cost 50k.

and regarding "requiring the rights".... to be honest, at this stage I'm just jamming with other creative people. I have a team of semi famous cats all willing to contribute their time and skills for the fun of creating stuff. So it's a nice opportunity for someone to get involved .

If I found a script I liked - I would consider optioning. But I would have to love it.
Payment depends on many factors - mainly what stage the writer is at. If I have great script in my hands which I could raise investment for - then yes everyone gets their fair due. If I for some reason like the script but it's not commercial enough - I'd still have a stab at bringing it to the screen; but I could not guarantee payment.

My background is in TV, two years ago I wrote and sold my first feature. I now have screenplays with four different producers, as well as one I am producing myself; the project budgets range between 300K and 46 million. I don't need and I am not looking for a leg up, but I am always looking for great collaborators. If you are serious about looking for good writers and material please drop me a line on adam@dittofilms.com and we can perhaps try and find some common ground, pitch a tent and move forward with a project or two.
All the best.
Adam
