I've worked with Jon Stow a director who has some great experience with a range of SFX on big productions. He also happens to be a really lovely guy, who I'm sure at the very least could point you in the right direction. When you say SFX I assume you mean practical effects of smoke, fire etc and not VFX to create virtual smoke, fire etc ... I can help with the later BTW.
