Anyone filmed in Myanmar (Burma) post 2010 elections?

Would be great to hear from anyone who is willing to share their filming experience in this country. Early days, but I may be filming later this year as part of a short documentary. Please contact me if you think you may be able to offer advice, contacts or indeed would want to be considered as part of small production crew. Thanking you...

Hi Rehana,

I'm a documentary filmmaker currently based in Chiang Mai, Thailand which is near the Burmese border. I work for a ngo called Documentary Arts Asia - http://www.doc-arts.asia/ and we do a lot of work in Burma and also have film connections there so get in touch if you need any help!

My email address is: contact@jessieayles.net

Best,
Jess

Hi Rehana

I filmed a short film for an NGO there late last year. I was briefed that we would have to be careful and would have difficulty in doing any filming outside of Yangon. Ultimately, we found a great local DP/Director/Fixer with his own local production company/collective who, in conjunction with the NGO made everything happen; we filmed for a week in villages in the Irrawaddy delta about five hours outside of Yangon. With his help, we were welcomed into the villages and provoked little or no interest from officials (not that we were aware of...).
Let me know if you want to get in touch with Thaiddhi (DP/Director/Fixer) in Yangon and I'll pass on his details, and if you have any more specific questions I'll try to help.
