Anyone recomend a small light cheap steadicam (or equivalent) for a DSLR?

I have a Panasonic Lumix which I hope to use for making videos on a budget.
Will probably involve quite a few hand held shots but I want them to be steady..

Hi

I have the Xcam sabre (see link below) for sale if you're interested in buying a steadicam. I have only used it twice so it's in as new condition. I use it with my Canon 5D, which I feel was a bit too big for this piece of equipment despite satisfactory results. I pay circa £200 for it and would be wiling to sell it for £150 ono as it is in perfect condition. I can send you some photos of it if you're interested. Please let me know.

Cheers, Yann

If you're up for a DIY adventure, you may want to try some of the ideas on Youtube [search 'steadycam' !-)] ... some are fairly amusing (this one, if you've a spare 20 mins - the goldfish steals it for me):

I was asking myself the same question a short while ago, but have had to put the whole project on the back burner for a while after the initial curiosity ... renetto (link above) hits on sthg from a conceptual perspective when he designs into the operation of the steadycam itself those bodily articulations that have spent millions of years finessing in R&D - yr own wrist and finger joints, that is. Many DIY attempts (reasonably enough) seem to want to insulate the rig from any bodily manipulation except basic axial leverage.

Would be interested to hear what you make of the results if you follow through on any of the blueprints. Hope that's useful ...

The fly cam nano dlsr (find on ebay for about £70) is basic but does the job of more expensive ones very well. Tons of reviews and sample footage on YouTube :)
