Are there any networking events in London specifically for screenwriters and directors to meet?

11 years, 8 months ago - Tim Keeling

I'm a director looking for screenwriters with 5-15 minute shorts ideas.

On a recent Raindance screenwriting course, nobody knew of any monthly events in London where the sole purpose of the event was for screenwriters to meet with directors to form future partnerships. And there was unanimous demand!

If there are no events specifically for this purpose, I will organise something. However, it would be good to know I'm not treading on somebody else's meetup.

Hi Tim, as Charles mentioned, Euroscript is a great group to meet writers of all different levels. They usually have a big turnout, and I imagine a director in that environment wandering around wanting to find writers would be welcomed with open arms.

I am also part of Writers Ink London, and if you fancy meeting any of the professional writers in our group then I would be more than happy to chat to you offline and make that happen. We have received writing requests like yours in the past.

Cheers
Angela

VIP lounge @ O Bar booked from 7pm. We have exclusive use until 930pm, when it will also open to the public. Capacity is limited to 60 people, so please arrive in good time.

Matthew, we can put it to a vote.

For this to work you need bunch of Directors / Producers lamenting the fact that they just don't have anywhere to meet writers.

And then you'll need to gatekeeper the writers because you need roughly equal numbers of each.

So, you have 50 Directors and say 50 Writer spaces. And 500 writers apply. Hey presto, 450 enemies for life :-)

I'm not saying it won't work, I am saying that it needs to be driven by the Directors, (not a writer and not a third party, unless they have very thick skin), and in a way that suits them, not the writers.

Euroscript run free networking events in Central London every two months - the next is on April 22nd, 7.00 for 7.30pm.

While it's not set up specifically for writers to meet directors, there are many of both and they do generally meet and talk.

There's also usually an invited guest or panel of guests from the industry.

If you're on their mailing list, you'll get advance notice and information on how to book your slot.

Building on the success of the first event, I'm pleased to announce the Screenwriter + Director networking event will be back next month, and we're inviting Producers along too.

Free. Informal. The focus is on fiction shorts. Soap box will be provided for short pitches / announcements.

Tim - feel free to post into the bulletins and let all other Shooters know. I'd post to filmmakers as well as screenwriters. Shooters in the Pub is obviously open to all creatives, rather than specifically directors/writers, but we'd be delighted to help you promote

Marlom, I hear you – thanks for your thoughts. I'm going to go ahead with an unfettered approach and learn from the first event. If numbers blow up on the Facebook event, there is always time to change the event / venue.

If anyone can recommend a good bar/pub that's usually quiet on a Wednesday night in Soho/Central London, or space that can be reserved free of charge, I'll be very appreciative.
